I'm not sure folks are as caught up in materialism as you seem to think. I agree it's useful to have had to make do with little and for one to know s/he could do it again if need be.

My grandmother told me that a lot of people committed suicide during the depression. She saw people jumping out of windows and jumping in front of cars so that their families could at least get the insurance money. She said people who had money couldn't stand to live without it and would rather die.

But the people who were already poor were not as negatively affected.

Instead of a family of 4 people living in one house there were 17 people living in the same house. Everyone had to open their hearts and wallets to their family and loved ones.

I see that as a good thing.

We need to know how to make the everyday items we buy from the supermarket ourselves. That's the education we really need not those 'University' Student Loan educations!

The materialism and egotism of our society has no place in a Golden Age of peace inhabited by the meek and humble.

Maybe the Space Program will get up and running in time to migrate large numbers of those people who don't want to be on earth to Mars.

I see that as a good thing too.
