The Democrat Party has never represented the best interest of the American people, but then also the same can be said about the Republican Party. In truth, and contrary to what most Americans believe, neither political party is "the government" but rather each of these political parties is itself a lobby group... and what each of them lobby for has never been in the best interest of the American people. In every election cycle we the people are given a choice, but from only these two groups, to cast our votes in order to provide us with the illusion that we have a voice in government. However, in all of the major elections those that seek the high office are not elected but rather they are "selected" and we in the general population never really get to participate in that selection process.

Now with Trump in the White House maybe this will finally be changing if he in fact really works towards cleaning up the election process and removes the high cost of running for high office, but this is still yet to be seen. There is no reason why it should take spending a half a billion dollars to run for president, and to continue to have elections run this way can only invite outside money that expects favors in return.
