Yes, I find President Trump’s behavior towards someone that I often disagreed with but still admired, John McCain, as one of the things that is difficult for me to overlook.

Then go back to McCain’s presidential campaign to check on the invective heaped upon him by liberals. https://thefederalistpapers.org/opinion/democrat-hypocrisy-love-john-mccain-one-savage-cartoon
“Civil rights icon and Georgia congressman John Lewis is accusing John McCain and Sarah Palin of stoking hate, likening the atmosphere at Republican campaign events to those featuring George Wallace, the segregationist former governor of Alabama and presidential candidate. McCain’s campaign has responded with a statement in the candidate’s name, urging Barack Obama to repudiate Lewis’s comments.” Well, he didn’t exactly do that, now did he… https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/oct/15/john-mccain/obama-disagreed-but-didnt-criticize/
You don’t think that Trump’s style of rhetoric sprung magically into existence was his own creation, do you? The creation of nasty hyperbole was the raison d’être of the press in that campaign and no pious retooling of their vicious rhetoric now changes that. The minute Barak Obama was draped with the mantle of The Hero of the Liberal Superiority, the defense of ever particle of his politics turned rabid and hateful. Luckily for us, he was no Hitler because the liberals would have certainly turned over every power to him in their thinking their Biblical millenium had arrived.

Your statement reminds me of when I talk to a kid about doing something wrong and they want to talk about how everyone else does wrong things, too…

That is my line to pot growers and users that always trot out some unconnected wrong that they seem to feel excuses their wrong.
In this case, which is not unconnected, I admit it is a bad idea but I’m not excusing it. I rejoice that, until liberals acknowledge that they continue to do just what they say they despise in Trump and stop, Trump is going to see they are going to have to take what they dish out.
Liberals insisted on doing it, and refuse to accept their own responsibility for it (as you are now doing, turning to a strawman personal attack) , Trump is the only defense for something that liberal perpetrators refuse to stop. Let me know when you are willing to object to such rhetoric from everyone, left or right, and I’ll join you.
BTW I’m not your child to be subject to your lectures on my principles, you’re the one who keeps bringing what someone else (Trump) does and countering your personal criticism of my acceptance of Trump’s verbage by saying you should do as you say and condemn liberal demagoguery with equal verve is reasonable. I’m not required to be a punching bag.

Let’s be clear. Liberals sometimes do bad things. Conservatives sometimes do bad things. I was talking about Trump doing something I feel is wrong. And then you started pointing out that other people do wrong things.
…
Yes, other people do wrong things.
Other people are not president now.
Also, please stop pretending all liberals are responsible for all things that other liberals do. We aren’t. Just as all conservatives are not responsible for Trump’s behavior.
BTW, you lecture me continually…

Why, yes I do lecture continually. Or at least frequently. Rarely though calling anyone childish, stupid, racist, or anything more personal than pointing out inconsistencies or irrationality. But people do find that irritating, preferring to keep their jenga like belief constructions intact. The pulling out of irrational ideas destablizes that construct, at least among anyone who prides themselves that what they believe makes sense.
It is impossible to discuss bad communication skills, a group activity, without talking about more than one person. And in fact, since communication implies having already said something, the history of that communication is impossible to ignore. Sorry but why I refuse to be beaten into saying Trump is simply egregiously awful is because of the recent (Obama’s administration was just before Trump’s election after all) is intimately tied with liberal activity. Their invective, bullying, self righteous speech lead to them imposing actual damage to everyone. Remember the green rush that happened right after Obama announced that “his” DOJ would no longer pursue prosecution in states that had medical marijuana laws or the now infamous “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” that was followed by Pelosi’s equally infamous ” we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” Something cannot be ignored just because you don’t like the comparison. If we are really interested in effective communication, you don’t get to be the only one deciding what can be said.
Yes both liberals and conservative sometimes do bad things, which they will continue to do unless they have enough respect for each other to listen. This “conversation” has gone from “Trump is awful” to giving the example of McCain as proof of Trump’s great awfulness to saying that I don’t get to offer examples of people who you think are not awful doing the same thing. And you don’t think that is a pretty good microcosm of what someone might seeas the whole problem?
