Cultivating feral cats may be wise if you have a rodent problem large enough to sustain them. If not be prepared to sacrifice the volume of other wildlife it takes to feed them. Feral cats burn much more energy in search of sustenance than domestic cats. Their caloric requirements might surprise you.

Example: If a large feral cat requires two-tenths of a pound of meat per day, that equals seventy-three pounds of meat per year. It would take a huge rodent population to sustain that need, or it becomes -everything- else the cat can, and will, catch. Cats are very good at catching.

This is just perspective.
