Let's agree that in Washington politics, things are almost never what they seem to be.

But it's clear Trump is being dragged into something he never wanted. And as always when America turns bellicose in the Mideast, the likely catalyst is Israel.

Is Trump now between a rock and a hard place? Bet your ass on it. He cannot back down, yet cannot attack. We can only hope he's savvy enough to tiptoe through this snake pit and sit down with the Irani leader, lay it all out, and get some kind of concession from the Iranis that will placate the Israeli lobby without damaging Iran's sovereignty--some sort of "win-win" resolution.

I can think of no other US president more capable to pull that off than Donald John Trump.
