Making a Independent Energy Device(s) - (IED) does not need rare Earth elements, neither does the storage medium. LI-ION has been dead for a while, where its going to go is aqueous/gel [usually cross-linked silicone]. This whole rare earth element thing is just fear mongering and distraction.

Technically its better to make electrical conduits out of small tubes filled with aqueous/gel, unless utilizing principle 2 of Independent Energy - (IE), which is Plasma. using a plasma augmenter you can achieve stable negative entropy through all the lines [wire] of a house or whatever, because the lines them selves would self-nano coat. Eventually though the wire would turn into a gel/aqueous as no more [1st state of matter] copper would be left , it would be all [4th state of matter] nano-copper and the insulation [if not broken] would be the tube.
