Now, why would he want to do that? It seems to me like a very un-Trumpian thing to do. A lot of these telcos are building the network with their own money. Is Trump just going to take their infrastructure away? And hasn't Trump been trying to reduce Federal regulation and control?

I see two possible reasons, which may not be independent of each other.

If the government has primary control of the system, they could comb it for massive amounts of data on citizens' activities before passing the data feed on to the communications companies. The huge NSA data center in Utah would be the perfect place to do that. The entire "internet of things" would be added to the conventional internet data for them to play with. Nothing anyone does would ever be a secret again. If you open your refrigerator door, they will know. If you do a load of clothes, they will know.

That also seems rather un-Trumpian, but perhaps it is felt that it will be necessary to have such information access to root out the Deep State. But if they are successful in that, will they then stop monitoring everybody?

I said there were two possible reasons. The second is that Clif High stuff, the idea that there is a race of alien overlords already on Earth who, along with their genetically modified human minions, have the ability when in close proximity to alter our perceptions so that we see what they want us to see and not what is actually there. These aliens may also feed off our negative emotions, and may actually be the underlying controllers of the Deep State:

Clif claims that 5G is being rolled out because it A) allows the aliens and their minions to be located in real time due to their special bio-electronic natures, and B) interferes with their ability to mess with our minds.

Whether the alien angle is true or not, perhaps in a cost benefit analysis the importance of overthrowing the Deep State has been judged to outweigh the negative physiological effects on ordinary humans and terrestrial life. If so, let us hope this is only on a temporary basis, and the system will be dialed back or decommissioned at a later date. ("Oh, they were right, 5G is dangerous, I guess we'll have to shut it down...sorry...")
