Before there can be an apple pie, there has to be a Design for apple pie. :)

That Design might be embodied in or represented by a recipe that's written down somewhere. But the Design itself exists intangibly relative to our earthly goings-on, in a realm that's generally invisible to us and that we may as well call Heaven.

That Divine Design and the recipe that results from it have elements of Design and Control - that is, the, uh, "assembly instructions" include not only "what" (ingredients) but also "how much" (a cup of this, a teaspoon of that) and "when" (the foundation comes first, the roof gets added later) and "for how long" (as S.R. Dull's "Southern Cooking" book used to say, "Put into a hot oven; cook until done." :)

Us human beans are, apparently, "the cross-over point", the place where the Divine Design of things crosses over from the invisible realm of Heaven into the earth. Do it perfectly, and perfect apple pie results. :) Do it sloppily or introducing distortion into the recipe, and the result will be something else.
