Group Sues NJ Over New Gun Control Laws Before Ink Was Dry

I’ve said before that any gun control measure needs to be battled in the courts. Anti-gun officials need to start factoring the cost of the inevitable lawsuits into their consideration of new gun laws. The idea is that before long, gun laws will stop being proposed to any significant degree due to the cost of not just implementing the law, but the inevitable legal challenge.

In New Jersey, it seems they’re taking that concept to heart.

Yesterday, Gov. Phil Murphy signed a package of gun control laws that included reducing the New Jersey magazine capacity limit from 15 rounds to 10 rounds, meaning in 180 days, hundreds of thousands of gun owners will become felons if they don’t sell, modify, or otherwise get rid of their already limited 15-round magazines for long guns and handguns.

Within minutes, the Association of NJ Rifle & Pistol Clubs filed a suit in federal court to overturn the new law.

“This unconstitutional law will be ignored by criminals and madmen, and affects only law-abiding citizens,” said ANJRPC executive director Scott Bach in a release. “

The National Rifle Association announced on Wednesday that it will be supporting a lawsuit filed by a local gun-rights organization against New Jersey's law requiring the destruction or surrender of certain ammunition magazines.
