Recently I watched a video that had a brief info-graphic about attention span, which might explain the activist training andragogical (adult pedagogical) style, rote-like and broken into easily digestible parts: Human attention span in 2000 - 12 seconds, 2013 - 8 seconds … Goldfish attention span - 9 seconds. (And yes, I am curious if the goldfish' attention span has changed, and no, I haven't verified this by finding a related research article ...

Apparently research has shown that the primary cause of addiction is boredom.

In my opinion, multiple choice “right answer” style evaluation methods in education have stripped the meaning out of the learning process, making it very passive.

Why Passivity Breeds Mediocrity and Mental Illness

"In this video we explore why using our leisure for passive purposes tends to breed mediocrity and mental illness."

It begins with a quote from Colin Wilson,

“This is one of the most urgent problems for civilized man. He has created civilization to give himself security. Security for what? For boredom? His chief problem seems to be that most human beings need a certain amount of challenge, of external stimulus, to stop them from sinking into the blank stare and blank consciousness of the idiot.” (Colin Wilson, New Pathways in Psychology)

However, and unfortunately, these idiots can be useful in some ways. As is said in many ways, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” Maybe that should be, “Idle hands and minds are Satan’s workshop."
