Think back, particularly, to the crashes of Oct 1929 and 1987. While boom-and-bust cycles can ultimately be traced back to the policies and actions of the Fed, a large segment of the current stock market "boom" under Trump's administration is represented by the FAANG group, which consists of just 5 companies that are highly favored by institutional investors: Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Alphabet (aka Google). Take these companies out of the major stock indices and the economic picture doesn't look quite so bullish.

While the media focused public attention on the Kavanaugh/Ford testimonies this week, the Fed quietly announced at its quarterly FOMC meeting that it was raising interest rates by a quarter percent, with expectations that another interest rate hike was in the cards for December. Energy prices have started to rise as well, with crude oil futures breaking the $70 per barrel level .

Ask yourself, do a majority of U.S. consumers have the means to pay more in mortgage interest and fuel bills with winter right around the corner?
