Thank you, and I understand you perfectly. They are determined to have absolute control over our lives, and to squeeze every drop of profit from oil, allowing cleaner and better innovations only when they have such a level of control they can have all of that other stuff, too. I engage in "two-track thinking" because it's unhealthy to be depressed all the time, and I like to prod people into thinking like you and I do. In other words, it's definitely time to take matters into our own hands, yet no one seems to want to go first!

As for hemp, it's not possible to say enough positive things about it. It's a wonderful source of fiber, fuel, medicine, animal feed, light vegetable oil, and a thousand other things. And it's also proof that the main enviro organizations have gotten too wrapped up in socialist politics, because none of them are talking much about it. If they really want to save the forests, there would be huge demonstrations for hemp. Instead, they just drive home in their Beemer and slap another disposable diaper on their kid, turn on the A/C, and hang the just retrieved dry-cleaned suits in the closet.

So what do we do? If we can't get something positive happenning very quickly, we may find ourselves in a war of attrition. The types of innovation you mention, the things we can do for ourselves and our families, will certainly be handy if things get as nasty as I think they will. But it would be so cool to solve some of these problems before the inevitable pain and suffering descends on the sheeple. I really do feel for them, and have compassion for their ignorance. They have no idea what's about to hit them.
