Dear Friends, Patriots and Warriors of Truth:
Recently I had the opportunity to view again the great and classic science fiction movie, "The Thing," as created by Howard Hawks, and based on the John Campbell Story "Who Goes There?" To see a great movie again some years after having studied it, is to experience a mental process which is almost psychedelic. The mind does open.
In that movie, a team of scientists doing magnetic research work at a base near the North Pole record the passing of a magnetic anomaly, and an officer and some additional personnel fly out to this remote Arctic base to investigate it. They find that the source of the magnetism and energy is a huge saucer-like aircraft, buried in a layer of ice. Their attempt to use heat-generating explosives to melt the ice covering the craft fauks, setting a fire which destroys the saucer completely.
However, they do recover the frozen block of ice containing what appears to be the body of the pilot. It is transported to the Arctic scientific base and then the fun begins. The alien is a kind of vegetable-based humanoid which apparently absorbs blood.
The rest of the picture consists of the scientists quarrelling with the Air Force officers while a frustrated reporter tries to construct a news story out of these events: the "Thing" is of course defeated in the end -- by electrocution -- and the movie ends with a warning against invasion. "Watch the skies," the newshound says, in his finest post-World War II patter. The picture is a marvelous snap-shot of American life in the late 1940's, with cigarettes and coffee being ubiquitous, and with everyone speaking in that fast-paced, clipped, yet informal manner so characteristic of those times. Everyone has a nickname except, of course, for the Ph.D., the big brain who thinks that humanity can "learn" from the aliens and who is willing to give his own life to try to make contact with the plant-creature.
"The Thing" is probably one of the greatest science-fiction movies ever made, both as an entertaiment vehicle and as some kind of political propaganda. But what kind of agit-prop is it?
Remember, all propaganda has the same basic characteristics: it is either factual information (news reporting or journalism included), tailored to have a political effect, or political information which has been sculpted or tailored to evoke an emotional and thus cultural, response. Propaganda either supports the proposed policy of one faction or governing body, or serves the interests of some faction or governing element which is in opposition. Propaganda -- by definition -- cannot be value neutral and never actually is objective, although some facts may be adduced objectively. So what was the point of making "The Thing" and having it released at the peak of the so-called 'Flying Saucer Craze?' Was it a preface to a rallying of the nations, one that never occurred? Why did the Air Force take the lead in investigating flying saucers and UFO phenonmena with what now appears to be the agenda of denial (Blue Book)? Why encourage the creation of a superlative entertainment vehicle, one that serves to rally all Americans against a supposed and imminent invasion from outer space -- and then flatten it all out with twenty-plus years of denials? Who made that decision?
A full generation later, here comes the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and the world of the Hobbit, and so on, including Frodo. In the mid-to-late 1970's this fiction captures the interest of many millions of readers in the United States and in Britain, and becomes a social or cultural phenonmenon with Baby Boomer parents reading it for themselves and reading the stories to their kids.
Again, is the success of this fiction just the result of a great and imaginative writer's work, or was it "promoted," the way that "The Thing" was promoted? Is it propaganda? And if the Harry Potter phenomenon isn't New World Order/New Age agit-prop, what is it? What accounts for the tremendous success of the story?
Many people have praised the authoress of the Harry Potter books for getting kids to read, in this age of video-everything -- and especially for getting them to read a book with big words, big ideas and hundreds and hundreds of pages. I suppose there is a real value in that, but it comes at a time when there has been not just a trickle, but a flood of violent, bloody movies made by Hollywood and certain independents. And what these movies have in common are certain occultic, spiritual or Satanic themes.
Sometimes I think that Harry Potter stories appeal to kids because this boy has been orphaned, and must survive by his wits in a world where things are never what they seem to be on the surface; I wonder that the children raised here in the era of Global Free Trade -- where every adult must either work two jobs or work double-shifts, in order to keep food in the pantry and the mortgage paid -- I wonder if these kids do not feel like they are orphans, abandoned, ignored? One hundred and twenty years ago children in these United States tended to live close to their extended families and with their parents -- even if all of them worked (kids included). Then child labor laws and mandatory schooling began to split the family into "socialist work units" and Americans began leaving the rural, agricultural life forever.
Oddly enough, the newest class of over-achievers here in the United States are the Chinese-American, Korean-American, and Indian immigrants. What they have in common are tightly-knit family units, where learning and discipline accompany daily chores and work in the family business, and where we see the same ambitions which propelled earlier generations of Polish Jews and the Greeks, Slavs and Italians to their dramatic successes.
In "The Thing," there are two clans trying to survive in the face of a hostile, clever, and lethal enemy attack -- the Scientist Clan (which is at the Arctic base), and the Platoon Clan of uniformed jokers, fix-it guys, and pilots; each clan has one woman surrounded by men of various ages and in the end, their opposing interests are set aside for the purpose of surviving.
In "Harry Potter," the family has been virtually eradicated, both literally in the story itself and for the purposes we saw disguised in "It Takes A Village," by you-know-who. Perhaps some of the News Agents who are more schooled in the mystical signs and symbols of the recent millenium past can comment on this question about the other fiction I mentioned, The Lord of the Rings -- who was Frodo? what was Frodo, really?
And Are We Waiting For Frodo? Waiting For Frodo Now?
Personally, I have a very difficult time following the arguments posted by certain agents, referencing Melchizedek, Gabriel, and so on -- and I am a Christian, I believe there was a fellow named Judah-Bar-Joseph, and that SOMETHING HAPPENED. I just don't know what it was, exactly.
Personally, I am not inclined to wait around for some archangel to decide it is time to "save" humanity or to "help" me out. When, in the real world of buying and selling and commerce, has any such thing ever happened? What expectation do we have of it ever happening again (if it has reall happened). How do we know that the next installation of success will be comprehensive?
The answers are -- we don't know. We don't know, really, if it has happened that some angels came to save us in the centuries now past. Some of it seems very likely. But we have had the tablecloth jerked off the table in the middle of the banquet before -- and we were instructed to keep on eating, to close our eyes to the miraculous trick played on us -- and that is why the 1950s developed the way that they did, I think. But this much is sure -- we once had a great President in James Garfield and he was murdered. We had a great President in Teddy Roosevelt, and he was almost murdered. We had a great and charismatic leader in John F. Kennedy, even if he wasn't ever going to be a great President (or even a good man), and he was murdered.
In Bill Clinton we have had the greatest combination of possible worsts -- the worst liar, the worst obfuscator, the worst and most abusive leader of his own staff, the worst person ever entrusted with the Constitution, the worst administrator and easily the most incompetent crew since U.S. Grant got sobered up.
That's a lot of worsts. But what comes now? Are we waiting for Frodo? Is he "the W.?" Do we think that George W. Bush is going "to save us?" Or is he a true nullity, a cypher, a zero?
Based on what reasoning, do we expect a savior or guardians angels? Why wait when we have hands and arms and our own brains?
All this talk of celestial beings and Princely heroes does just about nothing for me as a man, as a father, as a patriot. Who will abide in righteousness and civic virtue, if not me? Who will stand and defend my children from Satanism, if not me? Who will find the courage necessary to drive a stake in the sweet earth of my adopted State, to load the magazines and to sing the sweet refrain of "My Country, 'Tis Of Thee," if and when it comes time to make the final stand against satanic evil and the Blue Helmets? What angelic powers will "watch my back?" Sure, I would like to believe that they are there. I do know that there is more to heaven and earth than is dreamed of Marxist philosophy or in the socialist dogma of UNESCO. But my neighbors are seemingly unaware. They are all Democrats. When will it be possible for me to speak to them of the evils which have been absorbed into the body of their Party, which have possessed their leaders? Which threaten us all, our liberties, our prosperity, our very lives and our very posterity and patrimony?
Where is my propaganda artist who works for Faction Two? Where are the Tribunes of Liberty? Where are their stories of brave, free men and women -- the Deerslayer, the Pioneers, the Last of the Mohicans -- for this generation, for this time, and for my children? Or Are We Just Waiting For Frodo?
