I posted my remarks as a non-sequitorial response to Rayelan's question on the front page of RMNews.com asking, "What's going on in Indiana?" The link was to a story about a black journalist stabbed outside his apartment building Sunday night.

Yes, some of the black people living in Kentuckiana (yes, that really is a common term) refer to Indiana as KlanLand. Next time you visit the region, ask someone.

I probably am safer in Indiana than in, say, Philadelphia or Manhattan. I've been called devil and cracker. I've been called those things in the Western United States as well as its rural South. I experience sometimes a barely muted hostility from blacks, as well as from whites wishing to show solidarity with those racist blacks.

BTW, many blacks seem to confuse racism with the power to discriminate against another on the basis of race. I think that's why one sometimes hears blacks saying it's impossible for a black person to be racist.

For the record, I oppose hate crimes legislation. It leads to a victim mentality that requires the person harmed to speak, think, and react against that harm according to a form or genre that causes injured party to subject himself to 'cultural norms' dictated by those who would teach all segments of the public to self-label, self-segregate, and self censor.

I also oppose racism and racist organizations like the Klan or like Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Shakedown.
