Forwarded, from Jeff Gordon - it started as a post to RMNEWS Yahoogroup, then was posted to another list; now it's here. :)

Hi, folks --
This appeared the last day of January 2001 on the RMNEWS_DAILY_EMAILS Yahoogroup, placed there by a member who got it from the Conspiracy Theory Research List.
There's an URL at the top of the post -- please DO take the time to visit there. The whole article is over 60k, too long for list-posting, but definitely well thought out and apparently well researched. Reading the whole article is a mind-changing event, I find.
As a background note: Word that pesticide might be what was causing "Mad Cow" first reached me in September 1996, by way of a list message, one that probably appeared on the Rethink AIDS list.
The writer was someone at the University of Brighton, who had viewed a television production about Mark Purdy. Purdy had become if not convinced at least highly suspicious that the pints of insecticide (cholinesterase inhibitor, Phosmet a/k/a Imidan) poured over cows' backs to combat warble-fly, a procedure mandated by government, was the source of this trouble.
"One key piece of supporting evidence," the list writer said, "is that nearly ten years after contaminated feed was withdrawn, there are still thousands of new cases of BSE every year." (As with the HIV model of AIDS, the orthodoxy explains this as "long incubation period".)
The writer also mentioned "the high rate of CFS, Alzheimer's and MS amongst farmers and people living near fields that are sprayed a lot."
What about cases of "Mad Cow" now reported in deer and elk? Well, Phosmet is being recommended for diverse uses, including pest control for Walnut and Pecan crops, grapes, pears, etc. If deer and elk are found in the vicinity of Walnut groves, that would be a likely 'trail' to follow up on.
(In Colorado, the western slope of the Rockies grows such things as apricots and other orchard items; cherry orchards exist on the eastern side. As a nightwatchman there, I used to watch entire herds of deer come down from the foothills, cross the road, and browse in our alfalfa fields. I know that just a half mile away was also a cherry orchard; no reason to expect there were not other deer, browsing there.)
I did a quick Google search on 'phosmet'; the first item that popped up was information on a possible connection between Phosmet and breast cancers.
As I've mentioned at an earlier time, the house I'm living in was
faithfully sprayed, every month, by fine hard-working gentlemen from the Orkin company. We stopped that practice at some point -- and years and years later, any cockroach that happened to enter the house was sorry he'd done it. I'd see him looking pretty normal on the first day; the second day he'd be wandering around in circles, looking very unsteady on his legs. The third day he'd be found, still alive, upside down in a doorway, apparently settling there as the best place to get some much needed oxygen. He'd be dead on the fourth day.
I couldn't help noticing that the second-day behavior might well have been described as "Mad Cockroach Disease" if I didn't already know what was causing it.
ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries PLC) has just completed sale of its chlor-chemicals divisions to global company Ineos, so as to "focus on specialty products and paints". Here's ICI's Java-heavy site:

Insecticide causes
Mad Cow disease

Pharmaceutical interests in the UK are ignoring new scientific
research that shows the insecticide used in the UK government's own warble-fly campaigns triggered the UK surge of 'Mad Cow' disease.
The new work shows that prions can bond with manganese in animal feeds or mineral licks. These manganese prions can cause the neurological degeneration seen in BSE. And other researchers unpublished work shows that prions in the bovine spine --along which insecticides are applied-- can be damaged by ICI's Phosmet organophosphate(OP) insecticide -causing the disease.
By a similar process, prions in human brains can be damaged by lice lotions containing organophosphate. Later in life, this can result in neurological diseases like CJD and Alzheimers.
British scientists have led the current theory that an infectious prion in bonemeal fed to cattle causes bovine spongiform disease (BSE). Infectious prions are also claimed to cause new variant Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease (CJD) in humans -from ingesting beef. But the infectious prion theory serves to obscure a tragic chemical poisoning scandal behind the majority of BSE cases.
Latest experiments by Cambridge University prion specialist, David R. Brown, have shown that manganese bonds destructively with prions. Many might be surprised to hear that organophosphates were developed by Nazi chemists during the course World War Two, as a chemical weapon nerve agent.
The marginalised research has devestating financial implications for ICI. It would provide a firm basis for litigants -who could include CJD sufferers, farmers across the world and families of the many British farmers who committed suicide during this BSE debacle.
