A San Antonio, TX law firm, Campbell & Jones Law has been retained by military personnel stationed overseas who requested voter ballots and did not receive them for the recent national elections, for the purpose of
protecting their "fundamental right" to vote.

A law firm in San Antonio, TX, Campbell & Jones Law, has been retained by military personnel for the purpose of protecting their "fundamental right" to vote. They allege that they requested voter ballots and did not receive
them for the recent national elections.

A Campbell & Jones Spokesman told Sierra Times that denial of the right to vote constitutes not only a violation of one's fundamental constitutional rights, but taxation without representation. Our clients can be made whole

by flying their ballots to them immediately (injunctive relief) so that their voices may be heard, or pecuniary relief in the form of their not having to pay taxes for their period of disenfranchisement from the voting process (four years).

Since this is going to be filed in Federal Court on Monday, 11-20-00, they need any other military members experiencing the same problem to contact them immediately.

The suit is moving forward pro bono, unless they win, in which case Phillip Jones will ask the court for reasonable attorney fees. "However, the costs of litigating this case could be extremely high since it will likely go all the way to the Supreme Court (copying costs, filing fees, research fees etc.,)". Jones said. So they are asking for donations to be sent to the firm made out to: Right to Vote ClassAction. (See address below.)

All parties to this suit are requested to fax Campbell & Jones with a notarized statement stating they applied for their ballot through the appropriate channel and did not receive the ballot in time to vote, or did not receive it at all. If any parties saved a certified receipt showing when they requested their ballot it will be very helpful. Also, if there are any military orderly room records annotating service members requests for ballots they could use copies of those, or sworn affidavits from the appropriate supervisor.
