How would a computer prevent meteor impacts? It would need some physical means of doing so. Laser beams? Particle beams? Such beams would be detected.

My guess is that stories like this are spread for the purpose of inducing paranoia about aliens in the minds of some readers, while simultaneously serving to confirm the preconceptions of outsiders that all the speculation that occurs on boards like this is so much nonsense.
This particular post was so crude that I doubt it will have much effect on anyone, but the same thing goes for better-written "nightmare scenarios" like the recurrent stories about the underground bases at Dulce, New Mexico. I strongly suspect that no such underground bases exist, and that the stories are circulated for the purposes I outlined. If the notion of an alien presence is made sufficiently terrifying, people will refuse to believe it because of their need to feel safe - while those who do believe such stories will be so fearful about the subject that they will not be at all attractive role models. The blanket of fear that surrounds the subject then allows the government to conduct "black operations" disguised as aliens and their craft, with the knowledge that most people will refuse to report them, or to copnciously acknowledge their existence even when they are seen. True alien encounters exist, but are rare; most "aliens" seen today I suspect are government fakes.
