In fact, there was no supernova in Alpha Centauri in 1997 (it would have been easily visible to the naked eye if there were), so that pretty much settles that.

Still, the way this story mixes plausible speculations with utter fiction is interesting. I wonder if the ship "Eldridge" was picked as the supposed object of the Philadelphia Experiment because of the resemblance of the name to the word "Eldritch", which is sometimes used to denote ghostly or mysterious energies?
