When I got pregnant with my sons, the 2 things I had set in granite were that I would breast-feed, and that no son of mine would be circumcised. I expected a fight with my husband because he is circumcised and there's the "just like Dad" argument. To my surprise, he backed me up 100%.

He then told me about witnessing a Muslim circumcision when he was in Turkey in the military, of seeing these men pin a 13 year old boy to a picnnic table in the back yard of the apartment building. He said the boy's screams haunted him for months afterwards.

I've taken a certain amount of criticism about it, since my 2 boys are the only ones in the family that are uncut. But the same people also criticized me for nursing on demand, natural weaning, selective vaccinations (DT & IPV only), staying home, shielding my children from a lot of the B.S. in the world, exposing them to high culture at a young age, and last but not least, home schooling, especially teaching them foreign languages.

One fellow, when he heard my oldest, 2 at the time, counting in Spanish, he said "I don't know why anyone would teach their kid to count in Spanish." His 10 year old daughter is barely literate in English. Ah, well, you just have to say "yes, dear" and follow your own heart.

One other benefit of not circumcising: locker room bragging rights..... Obviously, if one doesn't have 1/3 to 1/2 of one's penis cut off, it is going to look bigger.
