The Bottom Line!

To date, the year 2000 has been an interesting and challenging year for those who are involved in warning the public about difficult times ahead. Those who are warning about the collapse of morals, of our culture, of the family, of our political freedoms; those who are warning about the collapse of traditional, family, Biblical, and constitutional values; those who are warning about the collapse of our military and the threats from the New Axis (Red China, Russia, the radical Islamic states, North Korea, etc.); those who are warning about economic/financial crises on the horizon - are being largely ignored.

The American people (as a whole) have collectively switched off the conservative, Christian right, Austrian (free market) economic message since the New Year - a message which comprises a number of warnings about the direction in which America is headed. Contributions to conservative causes or organizations have collapsed. The pro-life movement has dramatically diminished almost to the point of non-existence. One large Christian/conservative film maker has seen his film sales diminish 98% since the beginning of 2000.

Christian/conservative radio talk shows have seen their audiences diminish dramatically (this writer would estimate 75% or more). The sales of Christian/conservative books are drying up. People who used to hold conservative, hard money, or preparedness conferences have seen their audiences diminish by 90%. It seems that the only message Americans want to hear today is a good times, feel good, how to make more money, how to get rich message.

The public interest in this year's political campaign is the lowest this writer can recall in over 40 years of political involvement. The voter turnout in November is likely to be the lowest in our history even though one of the two major candidates (if elected) could set up what could be the first American police state.

What is happening - what is causing the greatest levels of apathy, complacency and indifference to the critical issues of our day in America's 224-year history? Is it a hangover from the Y2K crisis which never came? Are people simply turned off by any form of bad news? Have people become so mesmerized by quick, easy profits in the stock market, by the promise of riches, wealth and affluence, that no other message matters? (There is no doubt in this writer's mind that a spirit of greed dominates America today, more than any other time in our history.)

Or, has a spirit of blindness and delusion fallen on the American people, so that no matter how large the evil; how great the danger; how audacious or blatant the government and media lies; how many or urgent the warnings (like the foreshocks or mini-eruptions that preceded the Mount Vesuvius destruction of Pompeii and its inhabitants in 79 AD) - that the American people are virtually blinded (perhaps supernaturally blinded) to these realities.

This writer observed the same blindness and delusion among most South Africans (who were very prosperous and affluent) prior to the Communist ANC being voted into power in 1994. Does such a blindness and delusion fall on a people just before the social or political order collapses? Are there forces from the dark side which bring this about? This writer doesn't know, but he wonders.
