DEVGRU---This group seems to be the group that replaced SEAL Team 6.
I would like to know from the "Phony SEAL" exposers if the leader of this group is known to them?
The Phony Seal exposers say they have a computer file that has the names of every SEAL.
If DEVGRU is a Counter Terrorism unit, wouldn't the Terrorists they are trying to counter, be trying to hack into a Navy computer, or the Phoney SEAL Exposers computer? If that computer showed all the SEAL names, wouldn't the terrorists be able to find out the names and track all Navy SEALS?
I remember reading the local paper here, a few years back. The wife of a Navy Captain had her van bombed. The local paper reported that it was in retaliation for something the Captain had done in Iran. If Iranian terrorists tracked down this man's family and tried to kill them, wouldn't all terrorists follow a similar pattern?
It just seems to me that if Navy SEALS, or any other covert team that is working undercover, uses their real names, they put their families at risk. Am I being naive? We read in the newspapers everyday about 15 year olds hacking into government computers. If a teenager can hack a government site, what do you think Iran or Libya can do?
If I were the head of special forces in this country. I would have them so well hidden that no one, not the CIA, the FBI, Interpol or their own wives can find them. I certainly wouldn't have a list of their names on computers where a group like the "Phoney SEAL Exposers" can find them.
I don't know for sure about the next thing I am going to say. I am just going to use it as an example because I have been reading the work Lester Coleman has done on Pan Am 103.
What if the Navy Captain was the Captain of the Navy ship that shot down the Iranian Airliner? If the Iranians tried to kill his family. What is to stop them from trying again and again?
Now, let's carrry this to another level. What if one of these covert SEALS who is part of a counter terrorism team, kills the brother, father or sister of another terrorist? What if the terrorist wants an eye for an eye?
If people like the Phony SEAL Exposers have the ability to know every SEAL that ever existed, wouldn't the terrorist also have that ability?
If I were married to a SEAL, I would be worried sick that one of his missions might get me and my family killed.
Again, if I were the head of the special forces in this country. I would have my SEALS hidden under so many layers of lies and covers even their own mothers wouldn't know them. Am I just too simple to understand the way the world works?
If these phony Seal exposers can track SEALS who are part of counter terrorism units, a terrorist will be able to do it too. If I can figure this out, you can bet the men in charge of these units can figure it out.
Now that I have presented this picture I want to ask some questions?
If a SEAL is attached to a counter terrorism unit, is he still a SEAL or has he become something else? If he were something else, would he SEAL records still exist so that a terrorist could find them? Would it be possible that the man went through SEAL training under another name? If his commanders wanted to make sure that no one would ever be able to track this man, wouldn't they have him "wash out" shortly before he completed the training? Or maybe they would even have him thrown out of the Navy and therefore end any history of him.
I read a lot of spy books. It seems to me that the men who write these spy books understand the world of spies better than the phony seal exposers do.
The next question I have. Regarding the SEALS that are known and walk around the world telling people they are SEALS. Didn't these men do anything in their backgrounds that could get them killed? Is there a difference in SEALS? After thinking long and hard about what these phoney seal exposers have said, I can't help but wonder if there are SEALS for show purposes and SEALS who actually do the work?
I am just a retired teacher, but something doesn't feel right about these phony seal exposers. Please do what I did and take a look at their webpage. Miclevy put up the link to it.
After you read it, read the description of DEVGRU and ask yourself if the men who are part of this group would be able to pass the phony seals test of authenticity? Also, while I haven't read their entire site. It seems that they are from the 50's and 60's. Haven't things changed since then?
I really want someone who knows to answer these questions for me.

DEVGRU
Developement Group
Much of what DEVGRU, or the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, is and does remains classified and unknown.
What is know is that they were formed in the mid 1990's after SEAL Team Six, the Navy's Counter-terrorism was disbanded.
DEVGRU was created after Richard Marcinko, the original commander of ST6 published a series of books that outlined the history and purpose of the original Team.
According to the US Navy, DEVGRU was formed to create, test, and evaluate new tactics, weapons, and equipment.
However, with the disbanding of ST 6 the Navy was left without a maritime CT (Counter Terrorism) unit, although SEAL Team 8 was tasked with maritime deployments and takedowns.
Recent rumors have appear to confirm that DEVGRU is actually a CT unit created (although current officers will deny its existance) to replace the lime-light stricken ST6. This is born out, in no small significance, by the structure surrounding DEVGRU.
While under the command of NAVSPECWARGRU (Navy Special Warfare Group, DEVGRU is also a component of JSOC, with other such units as the US Army's 1st SFOD-D and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, both units that list counter-terrorism in their promary activities.
What weapons and equipment DEVGRU uses has not been revealed. However, given their SEAL parentage it is a safe bet that the HK MP5 is used mainly in CQBand the Colt M4 is the primary assault weapon. The SOCOM pistol has been issued but it is reported that the Sig-Sauer P-228 is preferred for personal defence.
DEVGRU is thought to consist of around 400 operators and support personnel, divided into four combat teams and one training team. The combat assault teams are Red, Gold, and Blue, with Gold being the premeir assault team.
Gray team is the transportation unit containing the SDVs and boats used to transport the assault teams.
Green Team consists of the new operators who have just joined DEVGRU and are in training. Each operator inside the Teams has a specialty, but all are experts in underwater and HALO insertion.
They are also rumored to have their own helicopter assets within the unit. 18 HH-60 helicopters optimised for CSAR are said to exist within the unit, but I doubt this. Maybe one or two, but the navy has only 18 HH-60s in two reserve squadrons so it makes little sense to me to have 18 in one top-secret unit.
Credibility to the idea of DEVGRU being a counter-terrorist force was given by the following Executive order (found Here or go to

and do a search for "Naval Special Warfare"):
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including section 7103(b)(1) of title 5 of the United States Code, and having determined that the Naval Special Warfare Development Group has as a primary function intelligence, counter-intelligence, investigative, or national security work and that the provisions of Chapter 71 of title 5 of the United States Code cannot be applied to this organization in a manner consistent with national security requirements and considerations, Executive Order 12171 of November 19, 1979, as amended, is further amended by adding the following at the end of section 1-205:
"(i) Naval Special Warfare Development Group."
