Tisha B’Av

Tisha B’Av
"For the first time, U.S. President George Bush has backed the deployment of an international observer force in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, after G-8 leaders meeting in Genoa, Italy, on Saturday evening expressed formal support for the idea. The leaders called for the deployment of an observation force as well as for the immediate implementation of the Mitchell Report. The American administration is working on a formula for an observer force to monitor the Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire, following the G-8 resolution."

Just as news breaks that the U.S. will accommodate "monitoring" demands by G-8 leaders to hamstring Israel’s ability to respond to increased terrorist attacks, the world is moving quickly towards the infamous Hebrew calendar date, the 9th of Av, which begins at sundown next Saturday, July 28. Think about. How does one "monitor" terrorist cells operating secretly? Will Hamas allow international observers into their underground bomb making factories? Will Hizbollah permit monitoring of their suicide bombers? No. This monitoring can only be against Israel’s attempts to defend her citizens from murderous terrorism, and openly rewards the enemies of G-d’s Chosen People. Unfortunately, America has aligned herself once again with the evil of the world rather than with the Word of G-d. Inasmuch as the G-8 represents the top economic countries in the world, which have now officially joined against Israel, there is great potential for financial repercussions. The saints of the Holy One have a solemn responsibility to be in fierce intercession and constant prayer in the coming week. This just in from Israel:
FROM ISRAEL COMES A REQUEST FOR PRAYER
Tisha B'Av is next weekend, Sunday, July 29. It is the day of mourning for the destruction of both Temples, and so much more. Tonight is Rosh Chodesh Av, the first day of the month of Av.
TONIGHT begins a period known as "The Nine Days," during which time, we increase our solemn attitudes toward the Temple and if its loss. During these days, we are especially careful to keep our thoughts upon the destruction of the Holy Place and of the lifestyle was lost with its destruction. During these nine days, there are no celebrations, no weddings, and no haircuts! Among the Orthodox, bathing is kept to a minimum and freshly laundered clothes are not worn. The actual intent of such practices are in preparation for coming to grips with Israel's sin which led to the loss of the Temple, not just once, but twice. When the spies returned from the land, there was weeping when there should have been rejoicing. So, throughout history, G-d has given Israel reason to mourn on this day, the ninth day of the month of Av.
Here is a look at the events of this one day in the history of Israel. The Hebrew year is given first followed by the western calendar year.
2448 -- 1312 BC
Spies return from 40 days in Israel with evil reports of the Land of Israel. Jewish people cry in despair, give up hope of entering the Land of Israel.
3340 421 BC
Destruction of First Temple by the Babylonians, under Nebuchadnezar. About 100,000 Jews killed during invasion. Exile of remaining tribes in southern kingdom to Babylon and Persia.
3830 -- 70 AD
Destruction of Second Temple by Romans, under Titus. Over 2,500,000 Jews die as a result of war, famine and disease. Over 1,000,000 Jews exiled to all parts of the Roman Empire. Over 100,000 Jews sold as slaves by Romans. Jews killed and tortured in gladiatorial "games" and pagan celebrations.
3892 -- 132 AD
Bar Kochba revolt crushed. Betar destroyed - over 100,00 killed.
3893 -- 133 AD
Turnus Rufus ploughs site of Temple. Romans build pagan city of Aelia Capitolina on site of Jerusalem.
4855 -- 1095 AD
First Crusade declared by Pope Urban II. 10,000 Jews killed in first month of Crusade. Crusades bring death and destruction to thousands of Jews, totally obliterate many communities in Rhineland and France.
5050 -- 1290 AD
Expulsion of Jews from England, accompanied by pogroms and confiscation of books and property.
5252 -- 1492 AD
Inquisition in Spain and Portugal culminates in the expulsion of the Jews from the Iberian Peninsula. Families separated, many die by drowning, massive loss of property.
5674 -- 1914 AD
Britain and Russia declare war on Germany. First World War begins. First World War issues unresolved, ultimately causing Second World War and Holocaust. 75_f all Jews in war zones. Jews in armies of all sides - 120,000 Jewish casualties in armies. Over 400 pogroms immediately following war in Hungary, Ukraine, Poland and Russia.
5702 -- 1942 AD
Deportations from Warsaw Ghetto to the Treblinka concentration camp begin.
5749 -- 1989 AD
Iraq walks out of talks with Kuwait.
5754 -- 1994 AD
The deadly bombing the building of the AMIA (the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, Argentina) which killed 86 people and wounded some 300 others.
Let's consider these days, in "modern" 2001 and look at what faces us on this Tisha B'Av. The United States has joined with the other members of the Group of Seven Nations [plus Russia] in a joint resolution backing the deployment of an international military force to be used as 'monitors' of the peace process, or cease fire, or whatever one might call a war in everything but name. The question is, "How do you 'Monitor' terrorists? The only thing that these so-called "impartial observers" can monitor is the Israeli response to the Arab's deceitful terrorism.
It is also interesting that this declaration originated in Rome, was called for by the seven heads of the world's leading Western economic powers, and has been championed by the ten-nation Western European Union since Arafat first floated the idea. The prophet Zechariah wrote 2500 years ago that the day would come when God will make "Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it." Zechariah 12:3.
Now, President Bush is planning to meet with the Pope while in Rome. The position of the Vatican toward Israel is clear. Rome has never been a friend of Jerusalem.
Next Sunday is Tisha B'Av. Please be in prayer for the nation and the people of Israel, especially this week. This week will tell much about the future of the city of Jerusalem and about the future of this nation. I plan to be in Jerusalem on Tisha B'Av, as I was last year. I will take part in a march around the Old City walls with what was last year, a group of over 100,000 Jews who declared "Jerusalem shall not fall." Pray for me as I begin my study of Hebrew this week and as I go up to Jerusalem for this important day of remembrance.
The prayers for Tisha B'Av include this promise: "Those who mourn the destruction of the Temple will merit the celebration of her rebirth."
May it be soon, L-rd. Amen.

This coming week is unlike any other in the history of G-d’s people. We are His people. Let us not abandon our Jewish brothers and sisters by going about our mundane affairs as usual. Let us instead lift our voices, beseeching the Mighty One to uphold and safeguard His precious children and send confusion into the camp of the enemy. O Avenu, for the sake of your reputation, see! For the glory of Your Name O L-rd, act! B’Shem Yeshua HaMashiach, we ask. Amen.
