Greeks began voting today to oust the more conservative party they believe has brought them the economic hardships they've been suffering under for over five years. Their equivalent of our Democratic Party, the left leaning Syriza has promised that it will try to get some of Greece's debt written off. I guess their bank bailouts didn't work any better than ours did. Actually, it was far worse.
Their unemployment rate is now 28% while our 'real' one is hovering around 23%.
The governing party New Democracy (confusing isn't it?) says there have been improvements since the austerity measures were imposed by Greece's international creditors – the lead one being Germany. Angela Merkel was quoted as saying that the Greek people brought this on themselves with their lavish lifestyles, comparing them to the more conservative German people, in her opinion. I'm sure that went over well in Greece.
The Greek Prime Minister tried to use the fear card as he said, “We decide today whether we shall proceed dynamically, with security, or whether we are going to enter unknown territory.” So far, it looks like most Greeks, including the wealthy, more conservative ones, are opting for unknown territory as Syriza is pulling ahead. I'm not sure about the Greek dictionary but my English one does not list security as a synonym for austerity.
Syriza maintains that Samaras is trying to play on people's fears No doubt but so are they. And I wouldn't call it fear of the future as much as anger at the status quo. After all, the Greeks are already experiencing what our future will be if we continue to let our out of control government dance to the tune of the elite.
Is this what the Greeks were promised when they joined the European Union? I believe the rhetoric was more along the lines of social cohesion, financial security and dignity,. That is a Socialist lie. They received none of this and like in every country that has the canker of a central bank, they are learning that those banks and the elite who profit from them, are a law unto themselves.
What else would you call it when the bankers gamble with your money and if they win, they get to keep your money and continue to profit from it. If they lose, they expect you to foot the bill for it and cut your lifestyle to accomplish that while they continue to live in luxury. Remember, the elite got notified before the banks in Cyprus confiscated savings accounts so they could move their money. The plebians got raped financially. Does anyone else find this crazy or is it just me?
As for Syriza's promises to renegotiate their bailout terms, they haven't specifically said how they plan on doing that. Are they thinking that the international bankers and the EU are going to have a change of heart and play nice? Good luck with that.
Alexis Tsipras, the leader of Syriza said, “Greek people will regain social cohesion and dignity. And the message is that our common future is not the future of austerity, it's the future of democracy, solidarity and cooperation.” After five years of punishing austerity, the people are willing to believe anyone who promises change. I so understand. After eight years of the village idiot from Texas I was desperate for change too. Little did most of us realize just how bad that change would be. I hope the Greeks aren't buying a pig in a poke the way many of us Americans did.
Hmm, let's see, young, charismatic leader promising change. If Merkel isn't biting her fingernails by now, she should be. Her dream of a New World Order that “does away with the ideology of nationalism” seems to be evaporating in the reality of the rage over austerity measures.
Then, of course, there is the NeoNazi Party called Golden Dawn. Golden for whom? Certainly not the people if history is any indication. Would the Greek citizens be so desperate as to believe that the Nazis would be their saviors? Well, I can only point out what a friend from Frankfurt, Germany told me. She lived in Nazi Germany in the 30's and 40's and watched the rise of Hitler. She told me that people in other countries didn't understand how bad it was in Wiemar Germany after WWI when the victors decided the German people needed to be punished for it.
Too bad they didn't go after the real promoters of war...the Cabal. Anyway, she said that Hitler, when he first came to power threw out the central bankers, put Germans back to work and set up programs to assist the starving masses. She said, “He gave us hope and restored our dignity.” I wanted to ask by what, invading other countries and slaughtering millions of innocent people? But I didn't. She was a friend. There was nothing to be gained. But it was hard to reconcile the picture she gave me with the man history would know as one of the worst tyrants of the 20th century.
Then the words 'hope' and 'dignity' lit up a brain cell and I dug through some of the rhetoric our Kenyan born Cabal puppet mouthed as he was running for office. I picked out all of the Socialist propaganda and compared it to, not only Hitler but to some extent the Syriza candidate's speech. Then, I dug a little deeper to find the core of this canker and found Lenin's advice to those seeking power in political office.
“The only thing that matters is that you must come to power. Do whatever is necessary to come to power. Forget debate. Lie, steal, cheat, kill, whatever. Come to power. Then, after you have power, you can afford the luxury of debate. Because anyone who disagrees with you, you can shoot them. Promises are like pie crust, made to be broken. When running for a political office, don't tell them what your agenda is. They would reject you. You go in and tell them what they want to hear. You tell them you uphold whatever political beliefs they have. They will put you in positions of power. Once you are in power, then you betray them. You be what the people want so they will put you in power and they will follow you anywhere you go. They will follow you to their utter destruction.”
Wasn't he wonderful? And the Russians have built statues to this man? Do you realize how many of our politicians world wide follow that advice to some degree? He's just described most politicians and their playbook. I would caution the Greek people to remember their own mythology. Don't allow a Trojan horse into your midst. Don't do like we did in 2008. and live to regret it.
What did I learn from the 2008 elections? Ignore promises. Ask and find out who is this person? Where did they come from? What have they accomplished to date? What makes them worthy of the highest office in the land? Pretty faces and flowery speeches are just so much smoke and mirrors. When a politician promises change, nail them down to specifics. Politicians love to talk in vague and general terms, hoping you will just swallow the glittery promises and not question the substance too closely.
My advice? Pin them down. Instead of accepting their 'hope' and 'change' rhetoric, insist that they tell you specifics. If they've actually thought through whatever problems they're promising to change, they should have come up with solutions that are viable. If not, hit delete.
As for the global economy, I do not believe that all countries need to look like cookie cutter stamped images of each other. Diversity works well in farming and I believe it works well socially. Communism and socialism decry capitalism, but it seems to me that Russia is moving that way and so is China. Perhaps the leaders of both countries are learning that their citizens are much happier when they are prosperous. Maybe they will both learn that they are also happier when free.
In the meantime, the U.S. Has its own problems with capitalism, teaching us that unfettered capitalism only works for those at the top. But that is true for any form of government in practice if not on paper. Those at the top, those in control make the rules. And the rules will always benefit them. Unless the people stay right on top of them. Always be prepared to toss out what doesn't work in favor of what does.
I believe a form of capitalism with some common sense would work best. No matter how hard the Socialists or the Communists try to make it work, everyone will never be on the same footing. You could give every human on the planet $1000.00 or the equivalent in their currency, and before long some would have most of the marbles and some would just be content as is. Some would be broke almost at once. Some people are more ambitious than others. That is just human nature. And I don't believe you can change human nature by political decree. But I do believe you can make sure with a minimum of regulations and common law, that the ambitious ones don't climb to the top over the broken bodies and dreams of those with less. Look what happened in Russia when Communism took over the land. Everything was run by the state. The farmers no longer had any incentive to do their best.
I believe that a form of capitalism that honors and rewards the ambitious while protecting the rights of all will work. And all it will take is common sense and common law. That applies to nations as well as populations within nations. There is no need to homogenize all of Earths citizens to avoid 'offending' any group or nation. People should be left free to explore their potential, live their lives and raise their families in peace. We can trade with each other for items that the other manufactures or grows in abundance. We can step in when others have a true natural disaster and help without any strings being attached. We do that in this country all of the time. Common law would take care of those who would steal, kill or otherwise try to harm people or property.
Each country would have their own trained citizens army like the Swiss who serve for a time then take their guns back home for the protection of their families, towns and country. Kind of like America used to do before WWII. Ready to be called up to protect their country or help out a neighbor. Any country that wants to be a bully and tries to start a war or invade another country could be completely shunned by the rest of the world. No trade, no help until the people of that country replace them in office. It wouldn't take much of this before tyrants got the message. “Don't apply for work here.”
We do not need a UN with their strong arm of NATO to police the world. We can police ourselves. Every time we have a group like the League of Nations, United Nations or economically the European Union, it gets taken over by the elite trying to ram socialists ideas down our throats. I hope the Greeks can break free from this strangle hold and restore their economy the old fashioned way. Investing in their own country, putting their people back to work and putting the last five years behind them. I hope they can find their way out of this enforced poverty without having to cave in to the socialists. Socialism and communism are both lies.
People must learn in this era of nuclear weapons and a group of elites bent on world domination that we are all brothers and sisters. No matter what our skin color, nationality, religion or social level. We need to learn to live on this planet in peace or we will all face the extinction our hatred and discord will bring us.
