which is a 1999 ruling that "silver salts" are not GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe).

This ruling does not apply to ionic or nano silver dietary supplements. They are readily available but cannot be sold to "treat" disease.

A couple years ago Rima Laibow MD and I had a series of communications with the FDA and FTC regarding the status of Nano Silver claims. We cited a US government funded study declassified in 2009 which showed, in vitro, that various viruses did not penetrate living human cell membranes in the presence of Nano Silver 10 PPM.

Therefor the proper claim is, "Nano Silver 10 PPM supports normal cell membrane integrity." No penetration, no replication.
