It seems that Something doesn't like lucid dreaming.

In the dream, I had been outside, having an ordinary non-lucid dream with only the usual sketchy detail, and I entered a door to "my" basement (not like any I ever actually had), and then discovered I was in a small area 4 feet below the level of the basement room. It was during the awkward process of climbing out of that hole that I began to notice detail and realize that I was dreaming. So now I am lucid dreaming, and I start to look around at the room carefully.

It was mostly bare concrete, with a traprock floor. As I looked closely at the floor, I could feel that something somewhere was beginning to get upset with me, as in "No, no, don't look carefully at the floor". I noticed that all of the pieces of traprock, maybe 1 1/2 inches long, were different. I thought, "Gee, my brain is generating this amount of detail?", and as I reached down to pick one up, something seemed to be saying, "No, don't pick up a piece and look at it carefully, that's not in the script", but I did anyway. It felt like I was operating my body by remote control, but I turned the piece of traprock over in my hand, marveling at the perfect detail, and the tiny bits of sparkly crystalline material in the rock, meanwhile feeling Dream Processor CPU cycles burning up at a prodigious rate in the background.

I dropped the rock, and looked for a door out of the room other than the one I came in. The door I found opened into a much larger room entirely of concrete. Already the detail level was being reduced. I turned a corner, and there was an archway into what looked like a hotel function area, with maroon carpeting. A few staff were working at a long table preparing something. I walked passed them, wanting to find out the name of this hotel which seemed to be attached to "my" basement (already the lucidity was fading), and I entered what appeared to be the lobby, with a reception window (unstaffed), noticeably devoid of furniture, and doors to the outside. As I was preparing to go outside to look for the hotel name, I woke up, as if the Processor was saying, "No, we are not going to generate an outside world for you".

So now I'm wondering, where is the detail for such dreams generated? Is it really in the physical portion of our brains, as materialistic neuroscientists would have us believe, or does it come from a non-physical realm? Or is the universe really a virtual reality simulation as some physicists believe? Is there a real world to wake up into beyond this one, which would explain why after I woke up from the dream it doesn't feel a lot realer than the lucid part of the dream?

I once described another dream where I may have been in the "realer" world "above" this one, in a city with a massive building that might have housed the Quantum Simulator of our present world and many others. Or not. It was just a dream, right?
