About two years ago, our billym posted this. Unfortunately one of the videos he included has gone missing now, and I've had to replace the BGT audition video with a different clip that omits the introduction. Thanks to billym and to YouTuber SKIPPYTVLIVE. :)

I don't know what it is about Wales but for small country it has certainly contributed more than its fair share to world music. Besides the kind of band music like the Cory Band piece which hobie posted there is a long tradition of men's choirs and wonderful hymns in the Welsh language.
Movie buffs might recall such choir music all through the soundtrack in the classic film "How Green Was My Valley" about the lives of Welsh coal miners. It is as if the Welsh people somehow have the instinct toward music in their very blood and genes.
A fine illustration of the continuation of this is in the male youth choir named "Only Boys Aloud" which gained special fame when it appeared on the program "Britain's Got Talent". The following clip shows their 2012 audition for that show and the intensely positive response of the judges and audience.
They sing the Welsh hymn "Calon Lān". [The link leads to the original full audition segment on Britain's Got Talent, which now has embedding disabled.]
Only Boys Aloud - The Welsh choir's Britain's Got Talent 2012 audition - International version
Another version of Only Boys Aloud singing "Calon Lān" has the lyrics in both Welsh and English so you can follow along. And yes, the Welsh language looks very strange and unpronounceable to our untutored eyes.
Could you learn to sing this song? A BBC page asks that question and actually gives a tutorial on doing so. Give it a half hour and then come back and sing along with the boys!
