'MIDNIGHT LACE' - COLOR Movie Trailer - Excellent Doris Day Thriller - Commentary

Doris Day's serious dramatic roles are a departure from her comedy hits, 'Send Me No Flowers' and 'Pillow Talk' and others, but her work in the excellent thriller 'MIDNIGHT LACE' opposite Rex Harrison is good, accurate acting. Here is a film not to be underestimated, nor forgotten. Doris Day was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama. (1)

If things begin to go wrong in your life and accidents start happening, where do you draw the line between coincidence and intentional, and, when do you rule out your own possible paranoia when you finally see a pattern?

In fact, in real life, if things begin to go downhill it's a good idea to do something to immediately offset that slide, isn't it? Maybe some folks take a 'geographic cure' and change locations while others change spouses and such as that, but something needs to change when the negative stuff begins and an attempt must be made to change the direction of that slide, eh?

The film, 'MIDNIGHT LACE', is another of those films with a cast loaded with some solid acting talent that brings you to the edge of your chair. Opposite Doris Day is actor Rex Harrison. Also starring in the cast is Myrna Loy ('From the Terrace' and other great films), John Gavin [a former United States Ambassador to Mexico from 1981–86, good films like 'Imitation of Life' (1959) with Lana Turner, Spartacus (1960), Psycho (1960), and Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) etc.], Roddy McDowall, Herbert Marshall ('The Razor's Edge' with Gene Tierney, 'The Enchanted Cottage' with Robert Young, Dorothy McGuire, etc.), John Williams (as Chief Inspector Hubbard in Hitchcock's 'dial M for Murder'), and other good actors. So don't miss out on important films just because they may not often be in today's newspapers or online news channels. When you're browsing those DVD's remember some good, down to earth films that succeed in creating some real suspense. Other elements which add to the viewer's enjoyment are the expensive settings and furnishings, Doris Day's terrific wardrobe, and the magnificent Eastman Color in which it was filmed, and, there are some special lighting and hue effects which lend more mystery to some scenes.
