If Tom Clancy were alive today, he would surely not say America holds up quite well due to its allegiance to the Constitution [AUDIO]
"How stands the Union? It still stands pretty well. The Constitution's in place. And the system still works."
-Tom Clancy (1989)

In the summer of 1990, I attended the annual convention of the International Platform Association that was held in Washington, DC, whose president at that time was the famous columnist Jack Anderson.
At the IPA convention, I bought several audio cassette tapes, including one from the previous year (1989) that featured two keynote speakers who gave talks during the opening ceremony. One of the 1989 keynote speakers was Tom Clancy, the famous novelist who passed away in 2013. Until recently, I hadn't taken the time to listen to his presentation that was recorded on my tape.
When Clancy gave his keynote talk during the summer of 1989, he was on the verge of publishing his bestselling thriller called "Clear and Present Danger" that focused on the drug wars.
It was still a few months before the Berlin Wall fell and more than two years before Gorbachev resigned and the Soviet Union ceased to exist.
Given this historical context, I offer this 8-minute audio excerpt of Tom Clancy's keynote address that, on one hand, sounds very contemporary, yet on another level provides a telling glimpse as to how far America has fallen from its Constitutional foundation.
(Mr. Clancy's presentation was recorded by Chesapeake Audio/Video Communications, Inc.)
