The annual Easter Egg Roll is a long-celebrated and fun event held on the White House lawn, and it will continue with President Trump and his administration.

As a part of the event, the White House Historical Association, a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization, sells commemorative eggs on its website. The wooden eggs have the president and first lady's signatures and come in various shades of pastel and, of course, gold.

The association posted images of the 2017 set on Twitter, and the internet got a little cracked up:

According to Twitchy, some of the biggest critics were reporters who were quick to jump at Trump's golden egg.

New York Times's Julie Davis really got the conversation started by commenting on the egg's color:

To be fair, Trump does have a penchant for collecting gold things, but:

Edward-Isaac Dovere from Politico wrote that the “Trump White House” is making the gold Easter eggs, which is false:

Bloomberg View’s Tim O’Brien poked fun at Melania Trump's signature, saying it looked like “Jimmy” instead of “Trump”:

As it turns out, Trump had nothing to do with the Easter eggs — and the golden egg has a long history in Easter egg hunts (even beyond the White House). Obama and other past presidents used golden eggs, as well.
