Many moons ago, the crash-and-burn of my 19-year old world began in earnest with the severe depression being experienced by my girlfriend as we were in college together. There came a day when she couldn't talk to me, couldn't even look at me. I urged her to please just tell me what was going on, but, apparently, she simply could not. Not long after, she was diagnosed as having clinical depression. Everything was "down hill" from there.

Did she need counseling? Yeah, maybe; maybe so did I. But now, lo these many moons later, it's dawned on me that what she was experiencing, even though there were numerous life stresses that may have been part of it all, may have been a direct adverse effect of pharmaceutical "birth control" pills and subsequent depletion of B vitamins.

As we think about the apparent high rate of suicidal behaviors in college kids today, let's consider that prescribed meds may be significant vectors in that problem.
