SAFETY BULLETIN - Don't 'Blow' Those Stop Signs & Traffic Lights, Folks!

You've probably heard it said that it is better to get there late than to not get there at all -so true in today's fast-paced lifestyles as more and more drivers may be observed 'blowing' through intersections disregarding stop signs and traffic lights, risking their lives and other lives, too.

While doing chores recently, this editor was able to observe traffic nearby and noticed a little red vehicle blasting down the road here. Surely it was going too fast to stop for the stop sign at the next intersection and ......yep, the driver blew the stop sign and kept right on going out the road at breakneck speed. That car must have been doing 70 mph in a 30-35 mph zone. What is so important that anyone would risk hitting a little kid who might be approaching that intersection on their bike or just walking, etc.? Why do some folks regard their safety and freedom worth more than the lives of those around them?

If that offending vehicle had hit such a kid at that speed it would have splattered the kid all over the neighborhood. It would probably have been a fatal collision, also, if some vehicle had gone through at that time, even if such a vehicle had the right of way. The right of way does not guarantee the right to live if such inconsiderate idiots blow the stop signs and traffic lights!

Once, this editor was about to cross a properly marked walkway when a pedestrian light signaled okay and just stepping into the street off the curb when an old Bronco approached at breakneck speed and blew through that half-block walkway intersection, then continued to blow through the next main street intersection and light a half block away. Had this editor not jumped back upon the curb he would have become a statistic! As this editor looked incredulously at the rather dull look on the red-faced plump gal behind the wheel it indicated she may have been way too high on something.

If you think that an appointment or whatever is so important that you must blow stop signs and traffic signals you should remember that such a stunt might cost you your life and other lives if a collision occurs.

Don't 'blow' stop signs and traffic lights, folks! Whatever personal or business failure you encounter and race to fix may not be as bad as a personally inflicted death sentence. Wouldn't it be better to hang here on earth awhile and try to drive safely?!
