An Ontario nursing group contends Vanessa Burkoski was fired to silence her about changes affecting patient safety

“The boss of London’s largest hospital has sacked his chief nurse to stop her from speaking out against changes that put patients across Ontario in harm’s way, the head of a powerful nursing association claims.
Murray Glendining, chief executive of London Health Sciences Centre, tried to buy the silence of his chief nursing officer, Vanessa Burkoski, offering her cash if she would resign quietly, but she refused and was fired, Doris Grinspun, chief executive of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), said Friday.”

It be a good way to keep whistle blowers stating the facts from agravating further disagreement of people in a group from arguing about something that is important to them. A disconcerting appearance of 'unsustainability' in the Ontario health care system, leading to a two-tier public and private health care system.

Vanessa Burkoski was the Chief Nursing Officer for the Province of Ontario in 2007, to provide the Ontario government with advice in achieving a plan on health and a public overall plan, accepting readily general goals and acceptable procedures from a nursing point of view.

Abstract

Canada is one of the few developed countries without an option for private payment for delivery of services covered by the public system. However, in some Provinces there has been a slow but steady progression of private delivery and the possibility for patients to pay privately for services that are also covered under the public health care system in response to concern about the sustainability of the current system.
