Cuban President Raul Castro will have another term at the helm of the Communist Party, announced today that party after a three-day congress, which is held once in five years.

The congress also decided that other senior party officials are to keep their their current positions, despite the fact that Raul Castro on Sunday Suggested to senior members of his party that "instead they would play with their grandchildren," Reuters reports.

Cuban state media say that the closing ceremony of the congress was attended by Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro.

Fidel Castro was greeted by acclamation of nearly 1,000 delegates attending the congress at which were not invited foreign media, reported the state agency ACN.

Kastro in a short speech at the end of the gathering said that he would soon die and urged party members to help that his ideas survive.

- Soon I will fill 90 years of age - said Castro, in his longest public appearance in several years.

- I'll end up just like everyone else. The time will come for all of us, but the ideas of Cuban communists will remain as proof that on this planet, if it is done with passion and dignity, material and cultural goods can be produced that are needed by human beings, and it is necessary that we continuously strive to to achieve that"

- To our friends in Latin America and the world we have to say that the Cuban people will win - said Fidel Castro, dressed in a tracksuit.

In the Conference Palace in Havana delegates got on their feet and shouted "Fidel, Fidel," as soon he appeared on the podium, reports ACN.

Kastro previously appeared in public on 7 April, the first time after a long absence of nine months, when in a school in Havana, he spoke about the benefits of the Cuban school system, and before that in July 2015.

However, he, on a regular basis, in his home receives leaders of friendly countries and the state media published photos of these meetings.

Unlike the opening ceremony, the closing was not transmitted live on Cuban state television.

At the congress were elected First and Second Secretary of the Communist Party, as the top two positions in the party. Second Secretary is Jose Ramon Ventura Masada.

Fidel Castro, who next August will be 90 years old, retired in 2008 after a serious illness, after which Raul came to power, who introduced restrictions to the leaders of the two five-year terms, but it remains to be seen whether this limit will be respected.
