We in Turkey are a conservative society, and usage is that in some Turkish papers you have a special page on Friday with religious themes. Depending on your view, you can follow the ideas of some of the radical imams or those of Mr. [Fethullah] Gülen. But what advocates Gulen's movement, that is Kanal, is peace, dialogue and education, "said Celil.

The global movement

Fethullah Gulen, the leader of the movement Kanal, lives in America from where he also directs the movement. With President Erdogan he is acquaintance for many years.

Movement Kanal says he advocates moderate interpretation of Islam and their aim is to raise the "golden generation of Muslims," ​​which would have the religious and secular education. They are very closed and secretive.

"Kanal is a global movement. In more than one hundred countries around the world, it has founded schools, homes, universities, publishing houses and humanitarian organizations to promote its objectives. A former close allies of the Party of Justice and Development, are now on the national list of terrorist organizations," reports Harun Karčić, a reporter for Al Jazeera.

They have worked closely with the AK Party in the implementation of democratic reforms and fight against the powerful Turkish army, who had interfered in the running of state policy. However, a schism occurred in 2013, when the Turkish police discovered that the followers of the Gulen movement tapped Erdogan's office.

Network followers

Soon was discovered a whole network of followers of Kanal in state institutions, the judiciary and the police - who allegedly worked under the direction of Fethullah Gulen in order to form the so-called "parallel state" that would govern Turkey on orders Gulen.
