Before Trump "decided " to have a 2 week cease fire, he was facing huge numbers of politicians calling for the 25th Amendment option, being Impeached again - with this time Congress having the votes. and, he was facing a massive rebellion in the military that were already refusing to obey unconstitutional orders and committing war crimes.

It was a foregone conclusion if he didn't stop the illegal attack, that he was going to be greatly embarrassed by mass refusals to obey orders by military personnel.

Even if the deadly attack was supposedly successful, he was going to be impeached anyway, this was a given. His wife may have been on her knees saying: "Lets go now and get away from this and call this a win! We can go back to our mansion, and the next president can pardon you, and we're home free. Lets quit now while you're ahead!"
Considering all the alternatives, Trump would do well to make that choice and step away from the unforgiving lime light and fade away into history.
