Having said that, I've been in Pediatric hospitals with a job that I had. All I can say is God Bless the Nurses and Doctors who work with those precious little ones. Those children are brave warriors beyond belief..

I don't think anyone would take pain killers away from children in need but warn against the dangers of giving oxy for everyday conditions. Oxy destroys your liver and none of us want that.

How would you relieve the suffering of those children who have a chronic condition with no hope of a cure or those with cancer? My cousin's daughter was diagnosed with a chronic disease and has been taking oxycodone has needed. The problem is she must take it every 4-8 hours when her AS becomes a problem. Oxycontin would help a great deal as it is released gradually, last longer and she would not have to take oxycodone on a regular schedule thus reducing the problem of overdosing because the major problem taking any meds on a schedule is thinking you missed a dose but actually didn't. Of all the pain prescriptions written, the amount of abuse is still quite small. One other thing that is happening is that our metabolisms are changing. Remember years ago the number 1 choice of dentists and general practitioners was tylenol #3. Today that would not give the same amount of relieve.

Why don't we just ban all cars and drivers because certainly there is a percentage of people who cause death and destruction. Same thing with guns and bullets. What about beer and liquor? These are a much larger problem in our society but you say nothing of restricting their use further. The fact is a certain % of the population will abuse prescriptions, OTC meds and even food, and yes all of these have caused death.

What you are really saying is that you want to take the right of the physicians and parents to determine the type and amount of pain relief for their teenager and child!!!

It makes me wonder, what is your real motive here??? I strongly suggest you take a tour of your nearest children's hospital and just look into the parents and especially the children eyes.
