Hi, Folks -
From sometime in the 1950s, here are the Ames Brothers with their peppy version of "Beyond the Blue Horizon", written in 1930 by Leo Robin, Richard A. Whiting, and W. Franke Harling.
Regarding the theme to the orignal "Star Trek" TV series, Wikipedia says:
Courage has said his inspiration for the main part of the theme was the Richard Whiting song "Beyond the Blue Horizon", giving him the idea for a song which was a "long thing that...keeps going out into space...over a fast moving accompaniment."[3]
It's also said that the harmonic progression of the theme is the same as that of the song "Out of Nowhere".
