Loose and bagged peaches sold at Target, Wegmans and Aldi are being recalled.

Target, Aldi and Wegmans have issued recalls for bagged and loose fresh peaches sold at their stores this summer because they may contain salmonella.

The peaches came from the Wawona Packing Company of Fresno, California and have sickened 68 people in nine states — including some in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania — since June 29. Fourteen people have been hospitalized.

Symptoms of salmonella infection occur six hours to six days after being exposed to the bacteria and illness can last four to seven days. Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, fever and stomach cramping, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The outbreak is being investigated by the CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. A map from the CDC lists four cases in New Jersey, eight in New York state and one in Pennsylvania.

If you can’t tell where your peaches came from, throw them out and then disinfect the countertop, refrigerator drawer or shelf where they were stored, the CDC says. You also should not eat any foods made with the peaches.

Anyone who has the recalled peaches should dispose of them or return them to the store where they purchased them for a refund.

The peach recall comes two weeks after a nationwide onion recall that was also attributed to salmonella. It involves red, white, yellow and sweet onions sold at Walmart, Aldi, Stop & Shop and through Hello Fresh and Imperfect Foods. They were packaged by Thomson International Inc.

At least 869 people in 47 states were sickened by the onions, including at least two from New Jersey.
