My take on this is that viruses are a form of intelligent entity that can be either symbiotic or parasitic depending upon the state of the host. They do require a host cell to be active and to reproduce themselves, and heat from a fever will halt their replication while even higher heat will fully dissemble them. Oxygen also destroys pathogens so a simple way to reduce the activity of viruses would be to use ozone in the air as a disinfectant. UV light from the Sun helps create oxygen (as well as the production of immune modulating Vitamin D from Sun exposure) and spending more time outdoors in fresh air helps keep us healthy.
