Read This:

Lincoln usually read a little before he went to bed. The telegraph operators noticed that he often carried a worn copy of Macbeth or The Merry Wives of Windsor under his arm when he made his last visit to their office'
Analysis:
Lincoln gathered Intelligence, then telegraphed Confederate or Union Generals or Confidants in the dead of night. The tell is 'worn copy', meaning the instrument of a Book Cipher'. I now believe Lincoln reading aloud the same story many nights to his Secretaries or Guests, along with correspondence-letters to and from the White House are examples of book ciphers or coded material

Concocted Plot:
John Wilkes Booth, the 'Actor', is set up, as is the Chamberlain-Groom in MacBeth
'He (Macbeth) and Lady MacBeth plan to get Duncan's two Chamberlains drunk so they will black out. The next morning they will blame the murder on the chamberlains'
'When Duncan's death is discovered the next morning, MacBeth kills the Chamberlains, ostensibly out of rage at their crime - and easily assumes the Kingship'
'Booth led his gray mare up the alley behind Ford's Theater, passed through the building to the street, entered Taltuvall's (Tall Tale) salon and ordered whisky.'
'Scarcely anyone observed the dark man who sauntered unconcernedly down the aisle of the dress circle, surveyed the stage and the audience, and handed a note to Forbes, the coachman, who sat on the aisle near the door to the President's box. Forbes allowed him to go in'
I also like that Booth's supposed cohorts include Lewis Payne (Dolley Payne) and Davy Herold (character)
