The first football in 1880 was brought to Zupanja by the English industrialists. It all started when at the beginning of the 19th century nine English industrialists arrived to the city to build the tannery plant, which was used for tanning the skin. They also brought their own customs and so interesting game of leather ball. Football quickly became popular in Zupanja. The first football delivered to the local population by the Englishman was found in 1979 in a typical border house, old about 200 years at Vladimira Nazora 5 Street in Zupanja. In December 2015, Zupanja and HNS (Croatian Football Alliance) raised a monument to this ball.

Of course, now that ball and monument is a source of good jokes related to last English defeat.
