The 1936 film called THINGS TO COME reflects H.G. Wells' belief that a one-world socialist utopia would emerge from the ashes of war [VIDEO]
In 1933, as FDR ushered in a tidal wave of reforms and policies in an attempt to stem the economic calamity that followed the stock market crash of 1929, H. G. Wells - a former member of the socialist-leaning Fabian Society - wrote his science fiction novel called the “The Shape of Things to Come” that speculated on future events until the year 2106. His novel reflected his long-held view of a one world, socialist state that would rise up out of the ashes of endless war to save humanity. Three years later, London Film Productions would adapt Wells’ novel into a movie called “Things to Come.” Interestingly, his prediction of the start of a Second World War in 1940 was off by only a few months.
