According to South Korean sources close to the Seoul government (Yonhap agency), on April 25, three US aircraft carriers will be deployed with their attack groups to cross in the Japan Sea, the water triangle between the Korean Peninsula and the Sol Levante archipelago .
Despite the apparent cooling down of the crisis due to Chinese intervention on Pyongyang, preparations for a possible military escalation continue.
In addition to the Vinson already going to the crisis area, the flagship carriers are Nimitz and Reagan, respectively the oldest and the penultimate units of this class that came into service in the US Navy. The Nimitz will be from the San Diego base in California; Reagan, who is undergoing maintenance work, will arrive from Yokosuka, the Japanese capital of the 7th Fleet and the only US port outside of the US fixed seat of a carrier.
In view of the naval units available to each attack group, the US military apparatus in front of the Korean peninsula becomes particularly aggressive.
Although the crisis has emerged from the front pages of the newspapers for the moment, a milestone like the one in the Far East has not been seen for decades.
On April 12, the russian Varyag cruiser cruiser entered the south-eastern Sudanese port of Busan (opposite geographic opposite to Seoul) for a courtesy visit. The Russian presence is no accident: the Pacific Fleet flagship has weathered the US naval units, especially the Vinson group, originally destined for Australia, but immediately routed to the two Koreas. As of now, the presence of naval units in the region has had a geopolitical value. With the arrival of Varyag, Moscow remembers everyone and that good-neighborly relations with Seoul (and now with Tokyo) may also have an indirect weight in the forthcoming Pyongyang actions.
Japan, meanwhile, assesses the possibility of classifying as a "first-level alert" a possible further North Korean missile launch within its territorial waters. Tokyo considers 3 different national defense warnings: the highest corresponds to a real attack on the Japanese soil and allows the Jieitai, the Self-Defense Forces to mobilize.
Japan, deceived for 70 years by a pacifist constitution, for the first time since the end of World War II, it returns to show the muscles. The "Narashino" Parachute Brigade, part of the rapid intervention forces disbanded by the territorial division with which the Japanese land forces are organized, is in a state of alert.
General weapons noise occurs while South Korea crosses one of its most difficult institutional crises ever. Seoul, following the political scandal overwhelmed by President Park, has been unmanned for about a month and is awaiting the presidential election on May 9.
The outcome of the election will mark a milestone for the balance of the area. The THAAD (Kinetic Kill of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) wanted by Washington has been at the center of a fierce controversy between China and South Korea because Beijing considers it an American interference and an attack on its own security. If he won the left-wing candidate, opposed to the deployment of the defense system, chances of China's influenced China will lower tones. A possible confirmation of the installation of the antimissile system could be considered by Pyongyang as a threat.
Joint naval maneuvers between South Korean naval and US Navy are scheduled in the coming days.
Waiting for media attention back, tension in the Pacific remains very high.
