I find it interesting that the tunnel through the tree, was cut by lumberjacks almost 150 years ago. The cut itself is more than 2/3 of the width of the tree, and includes virtually all of the veinal process tissue of the tree.

Which means the tree has probably mostly been dead for decades.

Only now do we notice it, because the tree finally collapsed under the stress of high winds, instead bending like other 'live' trees in the vacinity, and were just as big.

It is a shame that we miss the tree, but don't see the cause in the interests of understanding what a live tree represents. Humans brought this about, because we wanted the novelty of drivng through a tree.

And in so doing, brought about its death.
