Searching Dead Links and Archiving Current Links

If you're reading old articles on the web, did you consider trying to search the caches/archive links automatically first?

Whenever we have old articles with external links (such as on voltairenet.org), it's a good habit to use these extensions linking to archive sites.
It's obvious that old sites aren't really dying, but replaced by Baidu or malware, etc.

So try either of these archive extensions for Chrome browser. Either extension adds a new entry when right-clicking links which is handy.
When I use greater-than signs below, it refers to separate menu items to watch for.

Try the Chrome extension archive.is Button.
- Use "Search Link" to find data from old articles:

Right-click link > archive.is > Search Link
- Use "Archive Link" to save neato data from websites:

Right-click link > archive.is > Archive Link

For exact same steps as archive.is Button, but for web.archive.org, try the Chrome extension web.archive.org Button.
- Right-click link > web.archive.org > Search Link
- Right-click link > web.archive.org > Archive Link

For Firefox you'd use the Resurrect Pages add-on to search these caches/mirrors:
Google Cache, The Internet Archive, WebCite, & archive.is
Use these steps with the Resurrect Pages:
- Right-click link > Resurrect this link...
- In the Resurrect menu choose current tab/new tab/new window, and one of the above caches/mirrors.

Instead of an extension or an add-on you can use ViewCached.com, enter the URL, and search:
- Google (regular & text-only)
- Internet Archive
- Yahoo
- Bing
- Live version
- Coral CDN
- Gigablast
- WebCite

You can also use CachedView.com to search a dead URL at Google Web Cache, Coral Web Cache, or Archive.org Cache. CachedPages.com is similar to CachedView.

So ideally, if there were a highly-charged link to morgellons/1q42 or something, you'd archive the site first using these extensions, then refer to the archived link in your posting instead.
That way we don't have to watch now before it gets deleted because you archived it first before telling us to watch.

If you want to copy URLs to different formats in Firefox use the CoLT add-on.
- Right-click empty area > Copy Page Title and Location As > HTML Link, Plain text, BB Code, Markdown, Wikipedia, Rich Text HTML.
(Rich Text is handy if you use Microsoft Outlook, since only rich text clipboard links get pasted correctly there.)

So as an example of a dead link, try http://www.voltairenet.org/article166027.html and you would right-click the link "List of declassified MK-Ultra Project Documents" and choose Resurrect this Link if you're using Resurrect Pages. Keep in mind Archive.is does have the declassified MK-Ultra Project Documents in question.

What other addons/extensions do you use?
