Fluoroquinolones – Cipro, Levaquin & Avelox

Fluoroquinolones are the most used type of antibiotics in the United States. Over 26 million people received prescriptions each year. But recent studies link these drugs to aortic dissection and aneurysm. Both conditions weaken the walls of the aorta, the largest blood vessel in the body, and may lead to a rupture or leak which can be life-threatening.

My sister was diagnosed as having an AAA (Ascending Aortic Aneurysm). Surgery to repair it would have been risky and complicated, so that was not done. Eventually, one fine morning, the aneurysm ruptured and she was gone.

I'd been thinking it was possible that radiation 'therapy' for breast cancer might have caused that aneurysm. Now, though, I suspect it was caused by a fluoroquinolone antibiotic drug. She had been in the hands of mainstream orthodox medicine throughout her life, likely taking many antibiotics over the years. During the last years of her living, she had a raging urinary tract infection at one point. I don't know which drug she might have been prescribed for that, but Cipro or Levaquin seems very likely.

I've mentioned a time or two that my father's demise was contributed to in large measure by having a torn rotator cuff that was not to be repaired surgically - he was "too frail" for that surgery, they said. But I recall he had been given Cipro for septicemia resulting from chemotherapy. I highly suspect the Cipro led to the torn rotator cuff. That wasn't the only drug that figured in his demise, but I think it was an important one.
