You can look at life anyway you want. You can choose a story (religion, theology, philosophy) or make up your own to explain life to yourself. You can think about life anyway you want.

I choose to think life is an adventure for which I paid good money for. And as in every adventure, it would not be an adventure if things stayed the same. Change, the unknown, the mystery of tomorrow makes life an adventure and it would not be an adventure if it was not so.

You may wish life was different, but when it’s not different, it’s still life, and you have to deal with that difference and you having to deal with it is your adventure.

NON-ATTACHMENT

LIFE IS CHANGE. Non-attachment to the past, present, people, places, things, circumstances and your expectations saves you from suffering and is the only way to be at peace and enjoy all that is life.

If you talk positive about the past and negative about the present you have a problem with reality, with life, and the result is depression.

Life is life and change is the reality of life.

The problem with non-attachment is that as soon as you do it, consistently, life becomes less of an adventure, but since that only happens to most people when they get older, they’re good with less adventure and more comfort

However (with that said) non-attachment allows you to move through life enjoying everything that is life–the “good”, the “bad” and the “ugly”.

STORY:

We lost the house, lost my job, the truck broke down on Christmas eve as we were driving to a friend’s house. My wife asked, “Now what do we do?” She was upset, which upset our six children. I said, “I don’t know, maybe we’re gonna sit here by the side of the road and die.” She looked at me and laughed. The kids didn’t laugh.

Someone stopped and I asked him to call my friend and tell him our situation. He came and got us and we spent Christmas with them. The next day we found a place to live that needed cleaning, no deposit, no first month’s rent, and moved in. We pulled the truck into town, got a free part, fixed it. I found a job. Thirty two years later we are still married, kids are raised and we are still alive. Life is a hoot when you are not attached to the past or present, and since change is inevitable and makes life an adventure, why not enjoy it, because the alternative is what? MISERY.
