There was an agreement, or more correctly a conspiracy of convenience, by the warring parties to keep this information to themselves. Had an investigative journalist discovered good evidence Russian pilots were engaging our planes directly, and published that information, he would have been exposed to draconian sanctions as if he had revealed a state secret. But, secret from who?

This is what comes to mind when talk turns to Hillary Clinton's deleted emails. Here's who knows: Hillary Clinton, those who sent them to her, those who received them from her, those who were copied, those who may have hacked the servers, and those who know of the events and conversations described in them. Once again, the ordinary citizen is left to wonder what's going on inside the palace walls.

Is this of any real importance? One answer is cited at American Thinker:

Perhaps the substance of the emails is damning. If the emails still exist, what would be the most damaging scenario for Hillary, for the country? ... If Hillary is elected, the secret emails might become a huge bargaining chip, and one that could be used to ill effect on our country. Theoretically, Hillary as president could be blackmailed by the holder of these emails. The price might not be in money terms but in policy adjustments. The potential consequences are limited only by one's imagination.

The substance of the emails can't be anything other than damning. We can safely dispense with any notions of prosecuting her so, again, please notice the bargaining value of these emails rests on keeping them a secret from the citizenry.

There is another scenario. Suppose the NSA has the emails and are waiting an opportune moment to assist Hillary's self-destruction with well-placed leaks. There is some evidence for this from a reliable whistleblower, William Binney, formerly of the NSA:

Zero Hedge - Asked point blank if he believed the NSA has copies of “all” of Clinton’s emails, including the deleted correspondence, Binney confirmed. “Yes,” he responded. “That would be my point. They have them all and the FBI can get them right there.” Binney then went on to speculate about something even more shocking: that the hack of the DNC could have been coordinated by someone inside the U.S. intelligence community angry over Clinton’s compromise of national security data with her email use.
