You missed the whole point of the show. Whether or not any one in the audience knew anything ahead of time has absolutely nothing to do with the experiment that was testing the possibility that an individual could be programmed to assassinate someone.

In that respect the experiment clearly showed that this is possible. Also, contrary to your belief, the reaction of people to a very shocking incident can often be stunned silence.

Furthermore, since this was in a theater setting many probably initially thought this was some type of act and were told the truth before the "reality" of what they had just witnessed fully set in.

If those running this show had played it out further with
police and paramedics arriving on the seen and the police hurriedly trying to evacuate the theater to get everyone away from a potential danger(shooter) then you most likely you would have seen panic set in. But, the purpose of the experiment was not to test crowd reaction to an event but to see if an individual could be programmed to shoot someone. Again, in this, the experiment very clearly showed that this could be done!
