A former NOLA police officer set up a non-profit that will assist New Orleans residents in giving Police Department access to the video feed from a video cam or cams on their homes. They have also arranged for a company to sell discounted cameras and installation. The monitoring by the PD is free. (Presumably, monitoring of anything else on your home network is also free...)
(This infowars.com article says the service charges $10 a month, which is apparently incorrect, but would have made it even more amusing...)
